These transistors are in good condition and have never been used. The 2N... germanium series transistors haven't been manufactured for quite some time. So the best description is "new old stock" (NOS).
Germanium transistors are unique and different when compared to the more common silicon transistor. They are rarely manufactured any more, and are likewise unique and hard to find.
The most common use for germanium transistors is audio amplification. As audiophiles will tell you, audio amplification via the germanium transistor produces a "richer", "warmer" sound than the silicon transistor.
When semiconductors were in their infancy germanium was the best element to use for manufacturing. After the discovery that silicone was more versatile, and durable, the use of germanium in semiconductor manufacturing came to a halt.
